I usually pay attention to changes rather than waiting for something obvious to happen. A few months ago, my car started making a soft clicking sound when I turned. It wasn’t constant, so I almost ignored it, but I mentioned it during a routine visit. Turned out to be a small issue that was easy to sort out. I’ve found that unusual sounds, warning lights, vibrations, or changes in handling are good reasons to have things checked.
